Richard Paey’s Clemency Petition Moves Forward; John Flannery, Esq.; War on Doctors/Pain Crisis blog of the Pain Relief Network; 2007-08-16.

Governor Crist and the Board of Clemency has granted Richard Paey a waiver of the rules so that his petition for clemency can be considered immediately.

Richard Paey, a chronic pain patient, is serving a mandatory 25 year sentence for possessing 100 percocets, necessary to relieve his chronic pain. Our Petition for Clemency is available on-line, as is our request for the waiver, our Presentation for Support of a Wavier of the Rules to Expidite Paey’s Petition for Clemency.

We move forward now to have Richard’s request to commute his sentence considered. We hope it could be as early as the September 20th meeting of the Clemency Commission. But it may slip to December.

We have already been in touch with the investigator for the Florida Parole Commission who is in charge of the commutation investigation. Linda Paey, Richard’s wife, has shared this encouraging news with her children. We tried to talk to Richard in the prison and won’t be able to do that until tomorrow, Friday, August 16, 2007. As early as tomorrow, the Florida Parole Commission will talk to Richard.

We are assembling information specifically requested in Richard’s investigation, more particularly, a chronology of Richard’s medical history.

We are most grateful to the Governor and the members of the cabinet for giving Richard this opportunity, and we are hopeful that Richard will have his sentence commuted so he may join his wife and children. But, as that New England poet wrote, we have miles to go before we sleep.
