Associated Press article about the Kansas Board of Healing Arts (aka the medical board, aka the KASBAH) reneged on an earlier agreement with the Pain Relief Network to forego action against Dr. Schneider\’s license until a full hearing of the facts could be had.
Two poems by Dr. William Hurwitz: “Billy’s Lament” and “The Appeal”; published doctordeluca.com; 2005. I like these poems. I’ve characterized the voice as Dr. Suess Meets Lenny Bruce, and I mean no disrespect to any of these three poets. In these two poems Dr. Hurwitz also reviews his conviction and the basic strategy for his appeal.
The unofficial soundtrack to the Pain Relief Network’s civil liberties movement for people in chronic pain. (Embedded music video of CAKE playing “Stickshifts and Safety Belts” and “Love you madly.”)

Dr. Fisher last practiced medicine some eight years ago. In the interval he has been criminally prosecuted for murder, civilly sued for wrongful death, and administratively prosecuted by the State of California medical board and stripped of his licenses to practice and prescribe. “I call it triple jeopardy,” he says. “That’s why doctors won’t treat [chronic pain].” All of this because he presumed to treat poor people to the medical [standard of care][soc] for chronic pain, which is opioid titration to analgesic effect or to untreatable side-effect. Belated updates to the Hurwitz Collection. I’m slowly starting to get back into the swing of things. There is very little chatter on the closed listServ’s about how the trial is going, no daily updates we became used to during the appeal. I’m going down to see one day of the trial for myself – earliest I could get away would be next Tuesday and I’ll plan on that. Will try to get sense of how it is going in the meantime. Candidate Gallagher Strikes Out Unjustly at Dr. Merrill (full text) John P. Flannery; Pain Relief Network press release; 2006-07-01. Excerpt: ‘Florida,’ Flannery said, ‘has a policy of intimidating any doctor who would dare to help chronic pain patients, and [the prescribing doc] and the patients [are] criminalized. Gallagher makes great pretense at having ‘family values’ and yet he has thrown his political weight against those families who value a loved one suffering from chronic pain.’ Comment (DeLuca): Drug War prosecutors and pathological liars like DEA Administor Karen Tandy can consider this a warning shot. If you attack a pain doc for selfish and …
